2011 sees the launch of McLaren Automotive’s first in its range of ‘pure’ McLaren high-performance sports cars, the McLaren MP4-12C. And leading the company’s first full year of global commercial operations will be the new Sales and Marketing Director, Greg Levine.
Levine has over 15 years automotive industry experience, including a successful five-year spell as Head of Audi South Africa. With past experience also in Italy and, most recently, at Audi UK as Head of Operations, Levine will bring to McLaren Automotive a broad and successful past and valuable exposure to commercially impactful marketing, retailer and customer programmes.
Antony Sheriff, Managing Director at McLaren Automotive, said of the appointment: “I first met Greg during our time working together in Italy and knew then that he had a bright future in the car industry. He has rapidly moved up through the ranks in the business and enjoyed great success in South Africa and the UK. His knowledge of the retail business and brand-building is excellent, and the fact that he has chosen to step into this crucial role at McLaren Automotive is testimony both to his drive and ambition, and McLaren’s ability to persuade strong industry players to join our team.
“2011 is our launch year and, we believe, a milestone in sports car manufacturing as McLaren builds its own range of sports cars around our trademark carbon MonoCell chassis’. We are really excited that we have Greg on board to help achieve our goal of delivering the best customer experience in the industry,” Sheriff concluded.
Greg Levine, Sales and Marketing Director at McLaren Automotive, said of his appointment: “McLaren’s plans for a brand new car company are unique: they cover all aspects from design and development, to setting up a global retail network, and launching new technologies and processes that benefit the customer.
“I have watched this project grow with great interest and feel privileged to join such an exciting and dynamic brand at such an important phase in its development,” he concluded.
Levine takes over the global role at a pivotal time in McLaren Automotive’s launch plans. The final partners in the 35-strong global retail network will be confirmed ahead of the first 12Cs going on sale in late-spring, and production has begun at the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) for a staggered launch by region from late-spring.

* McLaren and TAG Heuer celebrate more than a quarter of a century of partnership with the launch of an exclusive watch for sports car enthusiasts.
* The TAG Heuer MP4-12C Chronograph is now available as an exclusive limited edition through McLaren.
WOKING/GENEVA (January 18, 2011) – 20 years after McLaren launched the iconic McLaren F1 road car, and 26 years after McLaren’s Formula 1 team joined forces with TAG Heuer, a unique and limited edition chronograph watch has been displayed today alongside the McLaren MP4-12C at the TAG Heuer Mastering Speed Exhibition at Halle Secheron in Geneva. The TAG Heuer MP4-12C Chronograph combines both companies’ innovative, high-performance and precision manufacturing principles.
McLaren and TAG Heuer enjoy one of the longest-running sponsorship agreements between a racing team and a brand in the history of Formula 1, dating back to 1985. Both companies lead their fields in developing new technologies and design concepts, whilst the tradition of high-performance car buyers appreciating great watches is long and mutual: teaming up on this project, whilst celebrating their 26th anniversary of their partnership, was a natural step during the launch of the new MP4-12C sports car.
In 2011, McLaren Automotive will deliver the first in its new range of bespoke and ‘pure’ McLaren sports cars for the world, offering new levels of performance based on bespoke technology, a revolutionary carbon chassis and integration with Formula 1: a combination never before presented in a road car. That focus will be matched on the 12C driver’s wrist as McLaren Automotive and TAG Heuer have combined forces to design a watch suitable for owners of one of the world’s most innovative sports cars.

The TAG Heuer MP4-12C Chronograph matches in its characteristics the unique colour, materials, and design of the new 12C: the carbon dial is inspired by the 12C’s carbon fibre MonoCell – an engineering solution inspired by the team’s Formula 1 car chassis that makes the 12C incredibly light, safe and brings new levels of performance to the € 200,000 sports car segment. The watch’s movement is visible through sapphire inserts on the dial, revealing the “engine” behind the watch face. Of particular use to pilots and track drivers, the Flyback function allows the chronograph to be reset to zero, and immediately restarted by pressing only once on the push button.
A specific instrument used in motor sports, the tachymeter, indicates what distance is travelled, and the chronograph records the time intervals between two locations. Other details reflect the 12C further, such as the Titanium case that minimises weight and the alcantara leather strap that was inspired by the 12C’s interior materials. The orange superluminescent markers on the hands and the orange stitching of the bracelet reflect McLaren’s historic and traditional road and racing car colour. The final detail comes with the McLaren speed mark logo on the watch’s crown.
Frank Stephenson, Design Director McLaren Automotive: “I love watches and have always wanted to design one myself. The TAG Heuer MP4-12C Chronograph was a particularly interesting project as we have combined our passion for precision technology, engineering and performance and included some of the most outstanding design features and materials that can be found in the MP4-12C.”
The TAG Heuer MP4-12C Chronograph will be produced as a limited edition of 1,000 pieces and will be exclusively available for purchase through McLaren later in 2011.

WOKING, UK (02 February) – Following a successful public world debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed, and a series of exclusive presentations to prospective customers and media across the globe in 2010, the first McLaren MP4-12C high-performance sports car has begun production at the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) in Woking, England.
McLaren Automotive plans to build up to 1,000 12Cs in 2011. Most will be manufactured in a bespoke new £40m McLaren Production Centre, which is due for completion in May on a site adjacent to MTC. However, ‘Chassis 01’ is being built in the existing MTC production facility, where outstanding quality and highly efficient production methods have been fine-tuned since the Foster + Partners-designed building opened in 2004.
The innovative 12C was first presented to the public at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed in southern England in July 2010, prior to a North American debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. 12Cs were then presented at exclusive events to prospective customers and media around the world as McLaren Automotive toured many of the cities that will form a network of 35 retailer launch locations.
Milestone events in the 2010 launch year for the 12C have been captured in a new short film, which can be viewed online at McLaren Automotive’s official You Tube channel: http://www.youtube.com/mclarenautomotivetv
Best of incluant des séquences inédites 2010 dont la 12C à Dunsfold sur la neige.
This short film features appearances from Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, the 2008 and 2009 FIA Formula 1 Drivers’ World Champions. Both have enjoyed testing prototype 12Cs and continue to feed back their thoughts on the car’s development. The video also captures visitors’ reactions to the 12C at its debut events. Brand new footage reveals McLaren Automotive’s Chief Test Driver Chris Goodwin taking the car winter testing at Dunsfold Aerodrome – also known as the BBC Top Gear test track – as he assesses ESP calibration on Winter settings as part of the 12C’s variable Proactive Chassis Control system.
Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive Managing Director said: “Meeting our prospective customers at launch events around the world, from Dubai to Cape Town, Paris to Los Angeles, has filled us with inspiration. There is genuine desire for McLaren to be launching our own range of sports cars, and an exciting appreciation of what McLaren stands for: innovation, technology leadership, and a winning mentality.
“In five years, the MP4-12C has evolved from a concept we developed in our own Formula 1 simulator, to a groundbreaking high-performance sports car offering unique technologies and outstanding dynamic performance. It has been an intensive development programme, but now the fun really begins as our future owners look forward to taking delivery of their 12Cs.
“Feedback from our customers shows they understand McLaren Automotive is as committed to delivering a high quality sports cars and a fantastic ownership experience as a our Formula 1 team is to winning races. With ‘Chassis One’ now in production, our new network of 35 retailers in 19 countries worldwide is ready to deliver on this promise.”
