Detroit 2013: Audi RS7 Sportback
Take a S7 Sportback, cross-breed with a RS6 Avant and you get this magnificent RS7 Sportback.
As in the RS6 Avant wagon, the twinturbo 4.0 TFSI V8 puts out a handsome 560 hp from 5700 till 6700 rpm, with peak torque of 700 Nm available between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm. The 0-100 km/h sprint is covered in 3.9s and the RS7 Sportback can reach up to 305 km/h top speed (if you paid Audi to allow it). In spite of this performance envelope, normalized gas mileage is a measly 9.8 L/100km. The two turbochargers – blowing up to 1.2 bars – are nested inside the V, while the intake ports are lodged on the outside of the cylinder banks. This V8 also adopts Cylinder On Demand technology, with cylinders 2, 3, 5 & 8 being disabled under light engine loads. An 8 gear tiptronic gearbox sends the torque to the four wheels through a Quattro system, with 40% front/60% rear distribution in normal conditions.
The RS7 Sportback comes with 20″ wheels as standard, with 21″ alloys as an option. Adaptive pneumatic suspension lowers ride height by 20 mm.
Market launch is scheduled for fall 2013.
