WOKING, UK (August 5, 2010) – McLaren Automotive and Jardine Motors Group are pleased to confirm One Hyde Park; The Residences at Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge as the high-profile and visually stunning landmark location for the McLaren London showroom. McLaren London will move into the showroom in early 2011 in preparation for the spring 2011 launch of the McLaren MP4-12C, the first in McLaren Automotive’s new range of high-performance sports cars.
McLaren London at One Hyde Park will represent a true flagship showroom for McLaren Automotive; the architecture of One Hyde Park will establish it as a landmark development, its prime location in Knightsbridge guarantees immediate recognition, and the showroom’s exclusivity as just one of the three key retail spaces at the base of pavilions B, C and D ensures a genuinely unique experience for sports car buyers. McLaren London is anticipated to be McLaren Automotive’s leading European retailer and, potentially, the busiest in the global network.
Christian Marti, McLaren Automotive’s European Regional Director, said: “One Hyde Park has already established itself as a landmark location in London, and we are both proud and excited to be part of its future success. The McLaren London showroom at One Hyde Park will represent everything we strive for at McLaren: great attention to detail, form and function in its visual impact and atmosphere, and a focus on the customers’ requirements. We worked incredibly hard to ensure McLaren is represented by the world’s best retailers, and Jardine Motors Group worked incredibly hard to convince us that they were right for us in London. One Hyde Park completes the picture for both of our businesses as we move towards the launch of the 12C and our future range of sports cars.”
Sinan Omer, Brand Manager at McLaren London, on behalf of Jardine Motors Group, said: “We were honoured and excited to be selected by McLaren Automotive to represent them in London, and we hope to make McLaren London the most successful McLaren retailer in the world. Securing One Hyde Park as our showroom is the icing on the cake, and will give us a home that is befitting of McLaren’s sports cars: like the company’s headquarters, it continues the important McLaren tradition of presenting the company from a stunning facility that is both visually impressive and absolutely fit for purpose.”
Richard Williams, on behalf of Project Grande (Guernsey) Limited, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Jardine Motors Group and McLaren Automotive to One Hyde Park. The McLaren brand is an exciting and befitting addition to the development and will be the only motor brand available at One Hyde Park. We are in discussion with other leading luxury brands regarding the two remaining units. With over £100 million worth of apartments sold at the development since we launched the second phase of sales in April 2010 and with presales now totalling over £870 million, it is clear that the development is doing well and we are pleased to announce that it will be completed in late October 2010.”
The One Hyde Park development consists of 86 apartments and three exclusive retail spaces within three pavilions, B, C and D. The McLaren Automotive showroom will be located on the ground floor of pavilion B, the largest of the three retail units, benefitting from a prime position looking out onto Knightsbridge and strategically placed between Harvey Nichols and Harrods at the top of Sloane Street. Jardine Motors Group will take over the retail space and will commence its own specialist interior fit out to McLaren Automotive visual identity standards in preparation for the launch in early 2011.

The McLaren London showroom also recognises the attraction that Formula 1 commands and the motor racing technology that lies at the heart of McLaren’s future sports cars, uniquely displaying one of the team’s Formula 1 racing cars.
Following the March 2010 launch of McLaren Automotive as a brand new British sports car manufacturer, over 2,700 potential customers have expressed a ‘serious intention to buy’ the first car, the MP4-12C. The first 12Cs will be delivered in spring of 2011 and, while exact pricing will be confirmed at a later date, the car will sit in what McLaren terms the ‘core’ sports car segment of cars priced between £125,000 and £175,000.

McLaren Automotive plans to launch the first in its range of high-performance sports cars from 35 of the world’s best automotive retailers. London, Birmingham, and Manchester will represent McLaren in the UK, with other retailers located in USA, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, South Africa, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Australia. All retailers will take a naming structure similar to McLaren London (for example, McLaren Paris and McLaren Miami).

McLaren Automotive has unveiled the groundbreaking MP4-12C high performance sports car in North America at the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, taking centre stage at three key locations over the weekend, August 12-15.

McLaren Automotive secured three exclusive locations to reveal the first in the company’s range of innovative high-performance sports cars to car enthusiasts, collectors, and prospective customers.

The official presentation of the 12C was made by McLaren Automotive’s Managing Director Antony Sheriff, opening the Gooding & Company auction of classic sports cars on Friday 13 August. Included in the auction was one of just 72 iconic McLaren F1 road-going production cars. Regarded by many as the greatest sports car ever built, this example, chassis number 62, was sold by Gooding & Company on Sunday 15 August for $3,250,000, one of the highest prices ever paid for an F1.

The same Supernova Silver 12C was then displayed on the famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Concept Car Lawn during Saturday and Sunday 14/15. Taking pride of place, and with the honour of being the first car on the lawn, its arrival drew crowds and gave North American car enthusiasts the first opportunity to see (and hear) the 12C in action.

A Titanium Silver 12C and the XP13 rolling chassis were also presented to over 1,000 guests, including Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger and world-famous car collector, Jay Leno, over the course of the concours in McLaren Automotive’s hospitality tent at a genuinely unique location. McLaren Automotive enjoyed a high-profile position overlooking the famous 18th fairway at Pebble Beach.

Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive’s New York-born managing director, said:
“Launching the 12C at Pebble Beach and the Gooding & Company auction was a huge success. The feedback from visitors was simply phenomenal, and being able to make that direct link to our unique road car heritage with the presence of a McLaren F1 at the event was very special.
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has a unique place in American car enthusiasts’ hearts, and I believe McLaren made a few beat just a little faster this year. We will now take the 12C on tour around North America to every city in which we plan to sell the car, and from the feedback at Pebble Beach we are expecting to see a few familiar faces coming back for a second look!”

During the Pebble Beach event, McLaren Automotive confirmed that The Collection will represent McLaren in Miami and welcomed its newest North American dealer candidate, Pfaff Automotive Partners in Toronto. These two highly regarded premium car retailers will form part of an initial North American retailer network of ten. Two locations, Newport Beach in Orange County, California, and Philadelphia remain open but will be appointed in the coming weeks.

Tony Joseph, McLaren Automotive’s Regional Director for North America said: “Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was the perfect location for American sports car owners and car enthusiasts to see the MP4-12C for the first time. The interest in the 12C and the understanding of our brand was incredible, and McLaren Automotive will now tour North America so that even more prospective customers and McLaren fans can see the car in the metal.
“It’s clear from the feedback at Pebble Beach that high-performance sports car owners in North America are really looking forward to the 12C and the new way that McLaren Automotive plans to do business. It’s a pleasure to welcome Pfaff Automotive Partners in Toronto and The Collection in Miami to the McLaren family. We look forward to delivering a great range of McLaren sports cars to them over the coming years, and expect them to help us make a great name for McLaren in North America by delivering an ownership experience every bit as good and revolutionary as the 12C itself.”
McLaren Automotive now moves on to Los Angeles and presents the 12C to prospective customers at its McLaren Beverly Hills location on Thursday and Friday 19/20 August 2010.
