Insurance cost for 20+ year old car?
Message par getpalmd » 25 janv. 2015 21:48
I am back with my next question... I am looking to buy an early 90's car (to be a daily driver, not a 1000 km a year weekend cruiser). Honda NSX. To be registered in Zürich.
Comparis gave absolutely no insurance cost help because the model is too old - around what are people paying a year in Switzerland for their (daily driver) old cars? Just want to know if I should expect 1500, 2500 or 5000 a year. I will of course find out the real cost when I start sending in offer requests but just want to be prepared... for the 5000 CHF a year, if that comes...

I think you should try with other car insurer websites such as https://www.axa-winterthur.ch/en/privat ... fault.aspx.
Just click on "get a quote" and see how much it costs for you and your car.
I'm not a specialist but I don't think the base price will be over 2'000CHF
The other things that influence most the price here are: your age, your gender and your nationality.

If you take full coverage (3rd party liability + voll Kasko incl theft, collision, etc ...), you will pay around 3K per year with full bonus/rebate.
Premiums are based on the sticker price when new, and you get minimal rebate on an older car, argument being that parts are priced according to the sticker price, not the residual value. You can get a small rebate for older cars (a few %), but otherwise, you will pay the same premium for your NSX as for a new 130KCHF car.
Unlikely to be 2K, and if you get a quote for 5, then it has to be without the customary rebate (which can be as much as 65% off the base premium) or else you walk.

I used to pay 2500 - 2800 per year full coverage when I still had the license plates on my NSX. This was with the max rebate (x 0.35 I think).

Oh thanks, both for the link and the rest of the information, looks like anything between 2000 and 3000 a year depending on how much you include indeed will be realistic

If you stay with full coverage, and depending on usual facts like driving licence time, nationality etc... you should be in the 1800-2200 all inclusive per year for an NSX.
EDIT: juste found one I covered a year ago about, all in is at 1397.- per year, with maximum 8000km / year driving.
