The car should use a system based on lithium-ion batteries and an electric motor, both of which are respectively placed on either side of the rear transaxle. Overall a reduction of about 35% in fuel consumption (equivalent to about 17 litres per 100km) will be achieved. A KERS-like brake regeneration system, start/ stop technology and electric boost will also be installed.

Ferrari CEO confirms several new models are in the works
By Drew Johnson
Ferrari has recently rolled out two all-new models in the California and 458 Italia, but Italian automaker has even more up its sleeve. Speaking at an event in Australia, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa revealed at least three new models are on the way.
Speaking to GoAuto at the opening of a new Ferrari-Maserati dealership in Sydney, Australia, Felisa revealed that Ferrari will launch a convertible version of its new 458 Italia model in about a year’s time. Until Felisa’s confirmation, it was unknown if Ferrari was planning a Spider version of the 458 Italia. Several reports suggested the California would take over for the F430 Spider as Ferrari’s lone convertible offering.
Felisa also addressed the company’s Geneva-bound 599 hybrid concept, but said a production version of the show car won’t be viable for another five years. “The suppliers are not ready. Everything is underdeveloped. There is a lot of work to so. It is not for tomorrow. We haven’t decided when [it will be introduced]. It will be around that period [2015], but not before five years,” he told GoAuto.
Although a hybrid powertrain would improve fuel economy by about 25 percent, Felisa says Ferrari will, instead, focus on other fuel-saving technologies such as cylinder deactivation, automatic start-stop and electrically-power auxiliary systems.
While a hybrid version of the 599 isn’t in the immediate future, Felisa did reveal a GTO version is “coming soon”. No specs on the 599 GTO were given, but it is expected to follow the same blueprint as the F430 Scuderia, so expect more power and less weight.
Finally, Felisa confirmed a follow-up to the mighty Enzo was in the works, but failed to shed any more light on the project.
